Pinot Noir

by Madison

William: Hi everyone, it’s William and Madison back again on KidSomm.com! Today, we’re diving into the world of Pinot Noir, one of the most captivating and elusive grapes out there.

Madison: That’s right! When we first look at Pinot Noir, it’s often lighter in color than most red wines. Think about the time we made that strawberry cake, William. The soft blush of the wine is kind of like the delicate color of those strawberries.

William: Pinot Noir has deep roots, just like that old oak tree in our backyard. It comes from the Burgundy region in France. It’s been around for over a thousand years!

Madison: It is usually made into single varietal wines and is known for its elegant, light-bodied red wines, kind of like the beautiful ballet performances I love.

William: Yes, and the aroma is where it gets really exciting. Pinot Noir has a broad range of smells. It can be anything from fresh strawberries and cherries to earthy notes like leaves and mushrooms.

Madison: Exactly! Just like how the plot can change in a movie, the aroma and flavors of Pinot Noir can change based on where it’s grown. It can be delicate and light or rich and full-bodied.

William: True, Madison. And here’s something interesting: Pinot Noir is a real challenge to grow. This grape is very picky about where it grows, and it’s more prone to diseases than most others. But when everything goes right, Pinot Noir can produce some of the world’s most acclaimed wines.

Madison: It’s like when we’re baking. The right ingredients, precise measurements, and perfect timing matter. Just like the perfect conditions are needed to make a fantastic Pinot Noir.

William: We can’t taste these wines, but by exploring their color, aroma, and how they are made, we can really start to understand them. Just like the strategy in my video games, the complexity of wine is fascinating!

Madison & William: That’s our scoop on Pinot Noir. Stay tuned to KidSomm.com, where we try make learning about wine as much fun as a trip to Disney World!
