Sauvignon Blanc

by William

A young child sommelier carefully holding a small bunch of Sauvignon Blanc grapes, studying them with interest.

William: Hey there, future sommeliers! I’m William, and with me is my sister, Madison. Today we’re exploring the thrilling world of Sauvignon Blanc, a grape as lively and versatile as the best Pokémon characters!

Madison: That’s right, William! Even though we’re not old enough to taste wine, we can learn so much about it. Let’s start with the color. Sauvignon Blanc is often light and bright, like the glowing magic wand in my favorite fairy tale or the shiny Charizard card William always wanted.

William: Sauvignon Blanc’s roots go back to the Loire Valley and Bordeaux regions of France. It’s like Jurassic Park, full of ancient secrets!

Madison: That’s right, William. Sauvignon Blanc is often made into a single varietal wine, highlighting its fresh and vibrant flavors. It can also be blended with Semillon, particularly in Bordeaux, creating a perfect combination like cookies and cream!

William: On to the aromas! Just like how Pokémon have different abilities in different environments, Sauvignon Blanc also changes depending on where it’s grown. In cooler areas like France’s Loire Valley or Marlborough in New Zealand, it smells like freshly squeezed lemons or the green apple candy we love.

Madison: In warmer climates, like parts of California, it can smell like ripe, juicy peaches or a tropical fruit salad. It’s as if our beach picnic came to life in a glass!

William: Now, here’s a fun fact: Sauvignon Blanc can sometimes have a “grassy” scent. It’s like running onto a soccer field in the spring, it’s refreshing and full of surprises!

Madison: Some winemakers age Sauvignon Blanc in oak barrels, adding another twist to our story. This process is like adding a few more colors to our arts and crafts project, giving the wine a hint of vanilla or cream, making it smell like the homemade vanilla custard we bake with mom.

William: So, folks, Sauvignon Blanc is as dynamic and versatile as the characters in our video games or the heroes in Madison’s fairy tales. We can’t taste these wines, but we can uncover their secrets through observing, smelling, and reading!

Madison: Absolutely, William! Like a Star Wars Jedi adapting to different missions, Sauvignon Blanc shows its versatility based on its environment and the winemaker’s choices.

William & Madison: That’s our journey through Sauvignon Blanc! We hope you now feel a little more connected to this fascinating grape. Stick with us on KidSomm.com for more fun, relatable, and educational explorations into the world of wine!

Hi!  My name is Madison and I started learning about wine when my mom and dad started taking courses.  Even though I can’t drink wine yet, I can still learn a ton and it’s fun to smell the different wines and see if I can guess what type of grape it is. I also like sports, cooking & dogs.

William – Age 12

Hello, my name is William. I have started taking an interest in wine when my parents started taking wine classes for a business my dad is opening.  My goal is to be able to review wines properly, just by sight and smell. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you.
