Nebbiolo

by William

A young child sommelier carefully holding a small bunch of Nebbiolo grapes, studying them with interest.

William: Hello there, grape fans! William and Madison here, and today we’re adventuring into the world of the Nebbiolo grape. It’s like the story line of our favorite Star Wars movie—distinctive and full of surprises!

Madison: Right you are, William. Looking at Nebbiolo wine, it has a deceptive light brick red color, kind of like the sunsets we watch when we’re at Mimi’s beach condo. But don’t let that fool you. This wine packs a punch!

William: Nebbiolo is like a historical superhero, hailing from the Piedmont region in Italy.

Madison: It is typically used for single varietal wines, producing some of Italy’s most revered wines, Barolo and Barbaresco. These wines are like the grand paintings you see in a museum, full of complexity and elegance.

William: Spot on, Madison. Smell-wise, Nebbiolo is really complex. It can remind us of red fruits like cherries and raspberries, but also things like roses, violets, and even tar! It’s like when dad adds so many crazy ingredients to make the perfect cake. Remember when he added instant potato mix to thicken it up?

Madison: Hahahaha GREAT analogy, and remember how our Lego challenge varies depending on the pieces we have? Well, Nebbiolo tastes different based on where it’s from too. In its homeland, it can be quite tannic with high acidity making it robust and full of character!

William: Exactly, Madison! And while we can’t taste these wines, remember, there’s still so much we can learn. Just like decoding a secret message in our Spy Camp books, every sniff, look, and fact unraveled gets us closer to knowing our wine.

Madison: That’s so true, William. It’s all part of the adventure!

William & Madison: That’s a wrap on Nebbiolo, folks! Stay tuned on KidSomm.com for more grape explorations. Just like a good Xbox game, there’s always more to discover!

Madison – Age 9

Hi!  My name is Madison and I started learning about wine when my mom and dad started taking courses.  Even though I can’t drink wine yet, I can still learn a ton and it’s fun to smell the different wines and see if I can guess what type of grape it is. I also like sports, cooking & dogs.

William – Age 12

Hello, my name is William. I have started taking an interest in wine when my parents started taking wine classes for a business my dad is opening.  My goal is to be able to review wines properly, just by sight and smell. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you.
