Cabernet Sauvignon

by William

William: Hey everybody! It’s your favorite kid sommeliers, William and Madison. Today, we’re switching gears to a bold and robust grape, the Cabernet Sauvignon.

Madison: That’s right, William. Cabernet Sauvignon is like one of the main characters in our Spy Camp books—bold, complex, and always exciting. Let’s start with the color. This wine is deep and dark, almost like the color of our pool at night when the lights are off.

William: Cabernet Sauvignon is a relatively young grape, only a few centuries old. It’s like the newest Indiana Jones movie – still part of the series, but newer than the rest. It’s believed to have originated in Bordeaux, France.

Madison: Cabernet Sauvignon is often used in blends, especially in Bordeaux. But in places like California, it shines as a single varietal wine. It’s like the star quarterback on a football team!

William: Spot on, Madison. When it comes to smells, Cabernet Sauvignon is just as impressive. You might catch the scent of black currants, cherries, and sometimes even bell peppers. Remember when mom made stuffed bell peppers last week? That’s a smell you might find in Cabernet Sauvignon!

Madison: So true! And depending on where it’s grown, you might even get a whiff of cedar, like that big cedar chest at Grandma’s house. Cabernet Sauvignon loves growing in warm places where it can soak up lots of sunshine, like California, Australia, and Chile.

William: Absolutely. And another cool fact about Cabernet Sauvignon is that it’s often mixed with other grapes, like Merlot, to balance out its flavors. It’s like when you and I team up in Fortnite, Madison. Together, we make a pretty unbeatable duo, just like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in a wine blend!

Madison: Great point, William! Even though we can’t taste these wines yet, we can learn so much about them from their colors, aromas, and researching how they’re made. Remember, like every good book, every wine has a story to tell.

William & Madison: That’s it for Cabernet Sauvignon. Stay tuned on KidSomm.com for more fun-filled wine adventures!
