Riesling

by William

William: Hi everyone! I’m William, and this is my sister, Madison. Today, we’re off on a journey through the amazing world of Riesling, as dynamic and intriguing as a new Star Wars movie!

Madison: So true, William. And Riesling is mainly used to create single varietal wines. They can be dry or incredibly sweet—like the difference between sour gummy worms and cotton candy.

William: Riesling has a cool history, hailing from the Rhine region of Germany. It’s like those exciting missions in our video games, full of twists and turns.

Madison: You bet, William! First off, let’s discuss the color. Riesling often shines like the sunlit surface of our pool during the summer – pale, almost clear, yet sparkling.

William: Then there’s the aroma. In cooler areas like Germany or Alsace in France, it can smell like a tangy granny smith apple or like a lemon – just like the citrus twist we add to our homemade summer lemonade.

Madison: But Riesling changes its tune in warmer climates. It’s like changing costumes for a ballet recital. It might smell like ripe peaches, nectarines, or even honey, similar to the sweet toppings on our Sunday morning pancakes.

William: And here’s something you’ll find interesting: Riesling can sometimes smell like petrol. Like when dad fires up his Shelby Cobra. But it’s completely normal and part of Riesling’s charm.

Madison: Some Rieslings can be sweet too. That’s like the final touch of glaze when we make donuts, it just adds another dimension. Winemakers sometimes leave a bit of sugar in the wine, giving it a delightful sweetness.

William: So, fellow learners, Riesling is as complex and versatile as the various football plays I practice or the magical characters in Madison’s fantasy novels. We can’t taste these wines, but we can understand them by looking, smelling, and researching!

Madison: Absolutely, William! Like the different crafting techniques we use to create a masterpiece, Riesling showcases its diversity based on where it’s grown and the decisions of the winemaker.

William & Madison: And that’s Riesling for you! We hope this peek into its world makes you as fascinated by this grape as we are. Stick with us at KidSomm.com for more fun and informative journeys into the realm of wine!
